Remote vehicle coding wiring kits with Jifeline

Coding vehicle specific wiring kits is becoming more and more common as the final step of tow bar mounting. Approximately 30% of the vehicle-specific wiring kits in our range must be coded in the vehicle. This job can be tricky and time consuming, especially if you don’t install tow bars on a daily basis or don’t have the right equipment. We have partnered with Jifeline to support technicians in coding the wiring kits. Jifeline’s experienced diagnostic specialists assist technicians with vehicle coding remotely.

Coding essential for the operation of safety systems

Safety systems such as the trailer stability program and lane assist are indispensable in modern cars. When installing a towbar and vehicle-specific wiring kit, the coding of the vehicle is an important factor for the correct functioning of the safety systems. The wiring kit module added to the CAN bus network must work perfectly with the vehicle. This is the only way the vehicle can take into account that a trailer is attached.

The coding itself becomes more and more complicated, because car manufacturers do not want everyone to be able to make adjustments to the vehicle network. In addition, automotive electronics themselves are becoming increasingly complex. Almost one third of the vehicle-specific wring kits in our range must be coded in the vehicle and that number is only going to increase. Coding equipment is not cheap and the latest car models are often not updated. In short, coding wiring kits is an increasing challenge for the technician.

Wiring kit coded within 30 minutes

We receive questions from mechanics about coding vehicle-specific wiring kits daily. We therefore looked for a solution that would help you directly in the workshop. This is how the collaboration with Jifeline started. Jifeline is a specialist in remote diagnosis and offers the automotive aftermarket the option of remote coding. The car does not have to leave the workshop and the diagnostic specialist takes the work completely out of the mechanic’s hands.

How does Jifeline work?

  1. The mechanic connects the Jifeline device to the car and makes direct contact with a Jifeline diagnostic specialist via an online connection.
  2. Using the selection menu or the chat function, the technician types a message to the specialist. In this case, he chooses ‘Vehicle coding for towbar’. The diagnostic specialist has all the necessary coding equipment at his disposal. He also has access to different OE manufacturer portals.
  3. Jifeline’s diagnostic specialist gets to work with the coding. This takes up to 30 minutes, but usually much faster. This depends on the car type. Once the coding is successful, a message will appear on the display that the coding is complete.

Jifeline is specialized in towbar wiring kit coding and has a solution for almost all car types. Jifeline’s specialists work from the Netherlands, but the service is accessible throughout Europe. There is an automatic translation function in the chat so that you can give the assignment in your own language.

To use Jifeline you need two things. A stable internet connection is necessary to communicate online with Jifeline’s diagnostic specialists. You also need a Jifeline device, also known as the Jifeline remote diagnosis interface VCI. Two VCIs are available.
